Parent Participation at Laurel HillAs a co-op school, Laurel Hill literally depends on the support of its parent community. We are a member of the California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools (CCPPNS), a fantastic source for anyone interested in education with an emphasis on parent involvement. While the demands of a parent-participation school may seem high, they are easily outweighed by the benefits. Member families are intimately involved in their child's introduction to education. You not only get to see your child in action, you get to learn from a wide variety of other families -- both children and parents. Cooperative families are a fairly self-selective group -- our families' dedication to the school is an extension of the dedication they have for their children. It's inspiring to see how many people are willing to go beyond what's required and to feel empowered by pitching in.
ResponsibilitiesFollowing is an outline of the responsibilities that Laurel Hill parents commit to.
Parent EducationWhile a huge part of the learning at Laurel Hill comes from simply interacting with the children, we also sponsor a number of Parent Education events. Our budget allows us to invite outside speakers, and we always offer some events in the evenings and some on weekends. During weekend events, childcare is often provided.CommitteesEach family must join a committee for which they will do various projects throughout the year. Our current committees are: Fundraising, Program Enrichment, Building, Yard, Marketing, Parent Education, and Enrollment. |
